On Saturday, 4 October 2025 — Sporting Greystones FC celebrated an exciting milestone with a ceremony marking the official opening of the club’s first regulation full-size pitch at Archer’s Wood, a major step forward for the club and its growing number of teams.
The event was attended by An Tánaiste, Simon Harris, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Melanie Corrigan, and Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District, Cllr Lourda Scott, along with club members, families, and supporters from across the community.
Club Chairman Peter Baxter thanked An Tánaiste, Simon Harris, for his support in helping to secure this important resource for the club, and expressed appreciation to Wicklow County Council for their ongoing assistance in providing much-needed playing facilities.
“We are incredibly grateful to Simon Harris and Wicklow County Council for their support in making this possible,” said Peter Baxter. “Access to our first regulation full-size pitch is an important addition for Sporting Greystones FC, as it now enables our 11-a-side teams to host their home matches locally. We deeply appreciate the continued backing from our local community.”
Sporting Greystones FC has grown rapidly in recent years and now fields 22 teams, including 5 girls’ teams, as well as operating a thriving academy programme for younger players. The new pitch provides a vital boost to the club’s capacity to meet the strong demand for grassroots football across the Greystones area.
Following the ceremony, guests and club members gathered for refreshments at The Community Centre, Dr Ryan Park, where they celebrated this important step in the club’s continued development.
